The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Queen elect, Aimee, who, it understands, has been voted as this year’s Bo’ness Children’s Fair Festival Queen by her peers in Bo’ness Public Primary School, and will be crowned at this year’s Bo’ness Fair Day; hopes that this year will be the first year since 2019 that the celebration can take place in person; understands that it was held virtually in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; congratulates all who have been selected as part of this year’s retinue, including Ladies in Waiting, Fairies, Maids of Honour, Queen’s Champion, Heralds, Sceptre Bearer, Sword Bearer, Yeoman of the Guard, Page Boys and Guards of Honour; understands that the Bo’ness Fair, in its current format, was first launched 120 years ago, in 1897, by the then Provost, George Cadell Stewart, and has been held every year since, with the exception of the years of the First and Second World Wars, and the industrial depressions of 1921 and 1926; further understands that the festival is believed to be one of the largest and most popular events of its type across the UK; notes what it sees as the importance of festivals, like the Bo’ness Fair, in encouraging community spirit and in celebrating the heritage of communities across Scotland; looks forward to this year’s Bo’ness Fair, and wishes Queen elect Aimee, her retinue, and all Bo’nessians, the very best for this year’s event and for the future.
