Big Noise a Step Closer to Kirkintilloch

The motion

That the Parliament applauds Councillor John Jamieson for campaigning to launch a Big Noise community orchestra in Hillhead, Kirkintilloch; commends the actions of councillors in East Dunbartonshire Council for supporting further evaluation of the viability of this project for local children; believes that, if approved, the programme would nurture musical talent after school and during school holiday periods; understands that Sistema Scotland successfully co-ordinated the launch of a similar Big Noise community orchestra in the Raploch area of Stirling, with support from the Scottish Government, the National Lottery, trust funds and others; notes the reported suggestion by Cllr Jamieson that Hillhead would be a fantastic location for the uplifting activities, with due consideration given to the participation of children from nearby Harestanes; delights that the outcomes achieved in the Stirling Council area range from what it sees as growing self-confidence in young people, to an increase in applications to the Royal Conservatoire, in addition to colleges and universities, and sends its encouragement to all local authorities that are considering similar projects to enable young people to grow in creativity and life skills.
