Remembering Gertrude Kenmure MBE
The motion
That the Parliament notes with sadness the passing of local hero, Gertrude Kenmure MBE; understands that Gertrude gave 35 years of service to the communities of Craigneuk and Wishawhill in North Lanarkshire, and was a founding member of the Craighill Youth Project, which, in 1990, became Glencassels Community Development Project, known locally as The Venny; notes that Gertrude was both a board member and a volunteer in projects which provided clubs and activities for children and young people in the area; understands that Gertrude was part of organising day trips, outdoor activities and group holidays for young people, as well as establishing The Venny Café; praises Gertrude for, it believes, positively impacting the lives of hundreds of children and young people in Craigneuk and Wishawhill; further recognises what it sees as her commitment, strength and leadership in her community work, and offers its condolences to her widow Tom, surviving children Ella, Charles and Tom, along with the wider community of Craigneuk and Wishawhill.
