The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Orkney Youth Cafe and Voluntary Action Orkney's Connect project on successfully being awarded funding by BBC Children in Need; understands that £99,000 is set to be awarded to each of the two Orkney charities over the next three years, providing much needed certainty for the future; considers that the Orkney Youth Cafe, which launched in 2009, is an invaluable local youth service, which offers a drop-in service for young people in Orkney, providing them with a safe space in which to increase confidence, improve wellbeing and boost social skills; further considers that Voluntary Action Orkney's Connect project is also a critical service for young people in Orkney aged between 15 and 21 who may need help with their learning needs and building the skills and confidence required to move onto employment or further education; notes that both charities offer young people in Orkney a wide range of activities and opportunities to support their personal development and get involved in the local community; applauds the enormous generosity of the Orkney public to the BBC Children in Need appeal over the years, with, it understands, Orkney taking in the most donations per capita in the UK in 2019 and raising its second highest ever amount last year with a total of £24,277.97; commends BBC Children in Need for its support of these Orkney charities, and for continuing to make a profound difference to lives of hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged young people across the UK every year; thanks the staff and volunteers of the Orkney Youth Cafe and the Connect project, in particular Lynn Bartlett and Karen Mack, for their tireless dedication to both charities and to supporting the lives of many young people in Orkney, and wishes both charities all the very best of success in the years to come.
