The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Govan Cross Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) on what it sees as the successful restoration of the memorial to the 1917 K13 submarine disaster, and historic main gate to Elder Park in Govan, which, it understands, had been vandalised by scrap thieves for several years; recognises that funding support was provided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Glasgow City Council and Historic Environment Scotland, with project management provided by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust conservation architect, Fiona Sinclair, and Heritage Engagement Officer, Chani Bond; commends what it sees as the expert craftsmanship of the contractors, particularly Covanburn, Laing Foundry and William Sugg & Co., who manufactured the signature octagonal electric lanterns; notes that the official ribbon cutting takes place on 11 February 2022, and will be carried out by Rebecca and Ruby Johnston, two sisters who are young Friends of Elder Park, and acknowledges the heritage of Elder Park, which, it understands, was laid out by John Honeyman, of architectural practice Honeyman & Keppie, in 1885, and was presented to the then Burgh of Govan by Mrs Isabella Elder, in memory of her late husband, the pioneering shipbuilder and marine engineer John Elder, who founded the Govan shipyard opposite the park.
