Congratulations to Teachers and Staff at Hawick High School

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates pupils and staff at Hawick High School, in the Scottish Borders, on being recognised by Education Scotland for making a range of improvements across the school to support young people’s health and wellbeing, learning and achievements; understands that the Education Scotland progress report on Hawick High School recognised that the school had made substantial efforts to make sure that young people and their families were fully supported during periods of lockdown, when learning from home was being carried out; further understands that it commended, in particular, the provision of a digital device to all young people, and training on how to use it prior to lockdown, as it ensured access to learning and teacher contact without many technical issues; congratulates Hawick High School staff on being recognised, it understands, for maintaining regular and effective contact with young people and families in a number of ways including virtual check-ins, health and wellbeing challenges and doorstep visits; notes the report's findings that attainment of young people in the senior phase was found to be improving overall, with young people achieving more qualifications at SCQF Level 4 – SCQF Level 6, and that better staff, pupil and family contact and engagement had been seen across all year groups; thanks Hawick High School Head Teacher, Vicky Porteous, all pupils and all staff for their continued hard work to improve the learning environment across Hawick High School, and wishes all well for the future.
