Cumbernauld Charity Partnership with Scottish Land Commission
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the partnership between Cumbernauld Living Landscape and the Scottish Land Commission, which aims to bring previously threatened wildlife back to the town; understands that Cumbernauld Living Landscape has improved more than 2.6 million square metres of its natural habitat, with the help of its hardworking supporters, and that, thanks to this project, red kites and pine martens have started to return to the area; understands that pine martens can naturally reduce grey squirrel populations, which, it believes, have a damaging impact on trees and woodland bird numbers, and considers that this group is one of the brilliant community success stories featured in the Scottish Land Commission’s MyLand.Scot Campaign, an initiative, which, it understands, aims to raise awareness of the role and benefits that land can play in everyday life.
