Bowls Scotland Recognise John McCartney

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates John McCartney, of Gourock Park Bowling Club, on being recognised by Bowls Scotland with a National Volunteer Award for his service to the sport; notes that the 81-year-old has been involved in bowls for the last seven decades, having joined Gourock Park Bowling Club in 1964; understands that he has won club championships and played at a regional level, but his passion has always been to help bring through fresh talent; further understands that as soon as COVID-19 restrictions were eased, John was straight back out on the greens leading new come-and-try sessions, helping to bring in dozens of new members to his club; commends John for what it sees as his commitment to coaching the junior section and encouraging new players to come through the ranks; believes that this award reflects his dedication to the sport in Gourock, and wishes him all the best as he continues to encourage more people to take up bowls.
