Team GB Success at Beijing Winter Olympics

That the Parliament congratulates the Women’s and Men’s curling teams on their success at the Beijing Winter Olympics with the Women’s rink, skipped by Eve Muirhead, securing a Gold Medal, while the Men’s rink, skipped by Bruce Mouat, returning a Silver Medal; notes that the Women’s team beat Japan 10-3 to win the Gold on the final day of the Olympic tournament and that the team members, from Scotland, include Eve Muirhead, Vicky Wright, Jennifer Dodds, Hailey Duff, and alternate, Mili Smith; considers that the Women's team dominated the final before sealing victory in the ninth end; further considers that GB’s men secured a well-deserved silver medal place, with Sweden making the 5-4 win in a closely-fought game, which was decided with one point in the extra end; congratulates the members of the Men's team, also from Scotland, including Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie, Hammy McMillan, and alternate, Ross Whyte; notes that members of both teams hail from the local Stranraer and wider Dumfries and Galloway area; celebrates the curling expertise that is born out of Stranraer’s ice rink and the Dumfries and Galloway region, and wishes all team members every success for the future.
