East Ayrshire Sailor Recognised for Royal Navy Service

That the Parliament congratulates Kayleigh Gibson on her receipt of a second Royal Navy Good Conduct Award; understands that the award is made every four years to personnel who have served their nation with an unblemished, exemplary record; further understands that the 28-year-old leading chef has been serving on HMS Protector, the Royal Navy's polar research ship and icebreaker; notes that Kayleigh joined the Royal Navy in 2013 and has served for eight years; understands that Kayleigh is one of 70 sailors and Royal Marines aboard the Plymouth-based ship, which is on a five-year mission to the southern hemisphere; appreciates that HMS Protector spends the austral summer working around the Antarctic Peninsula, updating maps, assessing the impact of climate change, supporting the British Antarctic Survey and helping research into the region's wildlife, including monitoring the penguin populace, and notes what it sees as the dedication and service of the Royal Navy personnel and the important role, it believes, that sailors and officers from Scotland play within the Senior Service.
