No Smoking Day 9 March 2022 - Quit Your Way
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes No Smoking Day 2022, which takes place on 9 March 2022 and has the theme of Quit Your Way; understands that the day presents an opportunity to encourage people to consider quitting smoking in ways that work best for their individual circumstances, to improve both mental and physical health; recognises the work of charities such as ASH Scotland; understands that smoking is the biggest cause of preventable ill-health and early death in Scotland, with an estimated 100,000 hospitalisations and 9,000 deaths each year; commends the national stop-smoking service Quit Your Way Scotland, run by NHS 24, and local smoking cessation services, providing free person-centred support to individuals planning to stop smoking; encourages anyone in Scotland who has the goal of giving up smoking to contact a Quit Your Way adviser, by calling the free helpline on 0800 848484 or explore the NHS Inform website at nhsinform.scot/stop-smoking, and looks forward to Scotland making further progress towards what it sees as the goal of becoming tobacco-free by 2034.
