World Book Day 2022

The motion

That the Parliament recognises 3 March 2022 as World Book Day, which is an international, annual celebration that aims to change lives through a love of books, as well as encouraging children to think creatively about their most popular stories; understands that the Scottish Book Trust has pledged to ensure that 3,000 picture books reach families directly through its Book Bug programme, as well as providing 84,000 tokens to nurseries in Scotland and distributing 90,000 £1 book tokens via its BookStart coordinators; notes that 2022's World Book Day theme is You Are A Reader, highlighting the importance for all children to have an opportunity to own and be inspired by inclusive stories written by authors and illustrators who are representative of the society in which people live; encourages everyone to visit their community library or bookstore to support local businesses and authors on World Book Day and beyond; considers that the support provided by World Book Day and partner organisations to be invaluable to many in the north east and across Scotland, and wishes them well with their continuing good work.
