Aberdeen University Researchers Awarded Queen’s Anniversary Prize

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates staff and students from the University of Aberdeen’s School of Biological Sciences for receiving the Queen’s Anniversary Prize; notes that the prize was first awarded in 1993, with the prize being awarded every two years in recognition of world-class excellence and achievement; understands that this is one of the highest honours within further and higher education in the UK; commends what it sees as the team’s world-leading research and education on soil science, which is understood to contribute to promoting the control of greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable food production, both locally and internationally; notes that the award was presented by the Duke of Rothesay, and the Princess Royal on 17 February 2022, at St James Palace; understands that the University of Aberdeen’s School of Biological Sciences is set to further benefit from the opening of a new Science Teaching Hub and Centre for Environment and Biodiversity, which will further advance the scientific progress being made by the research team, and wishes the research team at the University all the best for the future.
