Falkirk District Monuments to Light Blue and Yellow in Solidarity with Ukraine
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the reported decision by Scottish Canals to light the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel in the blue and yellow colours of the flag of Ukraine in solidarity with the nation that it considers is under siege from a hostile Russian government; notes the recent debate on solidarity with Ukraine, held in the Scottish Parliament on 24 February 2022, and the consensus shown by members across the Chamber throughout the contributions; condemns the actions of what it considers Russian aggressors, aided, it believes, by Belarusian forces, on the sovereignty of Ukraine, constituting what it believes are flagrant violations of international agreements; believes that it is important to show solidarity and support to the people of Ukraine, as a European nation, and to those Ukrainians who have made Scotland their home; commends Scottish Canals for what it believes is support for those affected by what it sees as this horrific war, and calls for urgent de-escalation to restore and maintain peace for the sovereign people of Ukraine.
