International Workers' Memorial Day
The motion
That the Parliament joins workers, trade unions and communities in commemorating International Workers’ Memorial Day on 28 April 2022; welcomes that International Workers’ Memorial Day is commemorated throughout the world, including in the West Scotland region, and is officially recognised by many governments, including the UK Government; acknowledges the publication of the annual statistics for fatal injuries at work in Great Britain during 2020-21 by the Health and Safety Executive; notes with sadness the findings that 17 workers in Scotland lost their lives during 2020-21 as a result of fatal injury at work; believes that a strong trade union movement is vital for advancing workers’ rights and improving health and safety in Scotland; commemorates all those who have lost their lives at work, and notes the calls for the Scottish Government to do what it can to officially mark the day.
