Nethermills Hydro Scheme, River Ayr
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Energy Agency Renewables Ltd for the completion of the Nethermills Hydro Scheme, which opened on 28 February 2022; understands that the scheme constitutes a hydro turbine on the River Ayr, which generates environmentally friendly energy; further understands that the scheme will generate around 320,000kWh of electricity per year for the neighbouring Ayrshire College; applauds Energy Agency Renewables Ltd for preventing, what it understands is, the emission of an estimated 147 tonnes of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas annually; understands that excess amounts of energy produced will be sold back to the grid, with revenue from this going to local initiatives to tackle fuel poverty; further understands that the hydro turbine is fish-friendly and allows for Marine Scotland Science to count different species; believes that initiatives such as the Nethermills Hydro Scheme are playing an important role in Scotland meeting its net zero targets, and wishes Energy Agency Renewables Ltd the very best for the future.
