The motion

That the Parliament notes that Scottish Apprenticeship Week runs from 7 to 11 March 2022; understands that an apprenticeship allows an individual to work towards a qualification on the job, with apprentices getting to work with experienced colleagues on real projects, whilst also putting into practice what they learn at school, college and university; recognises the importance of promoting apprenticeships across various different career options; notes that there are three different types of apprenticeship, foundation apprenticeships, modern apprenticeships and graduate apprenticeships; believes that these enable people of all ages to gain qualifications while also gaining crucial hands-on experience with employers in the industry; understands that the foundation apprenticeship allows school pupils between S4 and S6 to experience what working life is like, as well as learn practical skills while still at school, with pupils who finish the apprenticeship gaining an industry-recognised qualification, and notes that the modern apprenticeship and graduate apprenticeship allow individuals to learn on the job as an employee, while also spending time at college or university, working towards a qualification or degree and also earning a wage at the same time.
