Shetland Schools Receive Green Flag for Environmental Work

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates pupils at Sandness and Dunrossness primary schools in Shetland who have each received an Eco-Schools Green flag for their environmental work; understands that the international award recognises schools that demonstrate a commitment to the Eco-Schools Scotland programme and, over two years, engage the whole school in climate action; further understands that Sandness Primary has held a Green Flag since 2019, and Dunrossness Primary has held one since 2007; commends pupils at both schools for their action on litter and climate; notes that environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful, praised pupils’ climate action activities as fantastic; praises what it sees as a great achievement by the pupils at Sandness Primary to maintain extremely low levels of litter, and what it sees as a worthwhile project by pupils at Dunrossness Primary to collect biodegradable snack waste for the compost heap every day; supports the aims of the Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation to reward the ecological achievements of young people and motivate continued active engagement with environmental issues, and wishes the pupils of Sandness and Dunrossness primary schools well in their continued environmental work.
