The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dalry-based vitamins manufacturer DSM Nutrition Products (UK) Ltd on winning Large Employer of the Year at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony on 9 March 2022; understands that DSM won as a result of its track record of tapping into diverse local talent and building partnerships to supplement the skills it requires to grow its business; further understands that the apprenticeship programme, which started in 1963, has not only allowed DSM to upskill its existing employees, but has also enabled numerous young people to learn about science, technology and engineering; acknowledges that DSM focuses heavily on encouraging young women to consider a STEM-related career, which has resulted, it understands, in six female apprentices being recruited in the past three years; commends DSM’s plans to further expand the programme to 16 new process operations apprentices and upskill a further 26 new operations staff, using the process operations modern apprenticeship framework, as well as two maintenance, one laboratory and one data science graduate apprentice; understands that these new apprentices will support their existing Vitamin C and B5 production operations and potentially also be included in plans for their new methane-reducing feed additive Bovaer, which was announced, it understands, at COP26 by the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, and wishes all apprentices and employees at DSM the best in their future endeavours.
