STUC Women’s Committee Report, Silence Is Compliance
The motion
That the Parliament notes the STUC Women’s Committee report, Silence Is Compliance, showing, it believes, the stark reality and prevalence of sexual harassment across Scotland both in and out of the workplace; condemns sexual harassment and sexual violence in all its forms and reiterates its support for all survivors of sexual violence; further condemns the report’s findings that 45% of women have experienced sexual harassment at work with one third of women having experienced it within the last year alone; notes the finding that 85% of women said that their reports of harassment were not taken seriously, with 70% of women feeling unsupported in reporting their experiences; further notes the finding that 90% of women believe their employers should introduce safe home policies; congratulates those local authorities in Scotland that have ensured safe home policies via their conditions of licencing and trade; calls on the Scottish Government to go further in encouraging employers and local authorities to adopt similar policies; further calls for sexual harassment at work to have a greater focus and a more distinct place in the vision and work towards becoming a Fair Work Nation by 2025, and calls on the Scottish Government to investigate and provide an action plan that reflects how sexual harassment at work will be prevented, tackled and monitored through the combined lenses of fair work, equality and health and safety.
