Celebrating The Glasgow City Parents Group
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the work and achievements of the Glasgow City Parents Group (GCPG); understands that the group has represented Parent Councils and provided them with a voice on education policy at a city level since it was established in 2018; notes that the group consists of parents from across the city and is independent of Education Services; commends the group for its response to COVID-19 and lockdown; understands that it used social media channels to inform and support parents and carers about educational matters being highlighted both locally and nationally and that it forged a close partnership with the Quality Improvement Officer and the City Council’s Executive Director for Education Services, resulting in, it believes, stronger communication and accountability of officers; further understands that it also successfully hosted a number of well-attended online events for parents, carers and Parent Councils in response to concerns and anxieties surrounding the impact of COVID-19 on pupils; believes that this led to events delivered by Education Psychological Services that provided much needed support to parents, carers and guardians and partners, and commends the volunteers for their work and achievements over this difficult time.
