Coatbridge Based Mears Take on 20 New Apprentices
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that Mears, in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council, will be taking on 20 new apprentices again in 2022, which it understands, is an increase on the pre-pandemic target of 11; understands that the 2022 intake will be able to undertake modern or trade apprentices, ensuring that they can develop the career which suits them; notes that 7 to 11 March 2022 was Scottish Apprenticeship Week; considers that Apprenticeship programmes provide a vital opportunity for young people to join the workforce, while learning skills that are vital for fulfilling and lasting careers; understands that Mears specialises in property and maintenance management and works in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council to provide maintenance and repair of every property within the Council’s portfolio, and applauds Mears for having employed 170 apprentices in North Lanarkshire since 2011, offering local people their first step onto the career ladder.
