The motion

That the Parliament is appalled at the plight of the people of Ukraine, terrorised by what it sees as a ruthless dictator; notes the work of those in Ukraine, and outside it, who are working to help them escape the bombs and siege conditions and considers that their safety is a priority; further notes the efforts of those responding to animal welfare issues in the midst of the war; understands that many Ukrainians have been faced with the choice of staying in their home and being subjected to shelling and other military attacks, or fleeing under difficult and uncertain circumstances and having to make heart-breaking choices about what to do with much-loved pets, with many having to leave them behind; notes that this also affects zoo and wildlife sanctuary animals and livestock; understands that there are significant challenges in transporting or evacuating these as the country remains under attack; further understands that for those remaining in Ukraine and tasked with caring for animals, there are many difficulties in accessing appropriate veterinary services, food and safe shelter, and commends all those involved in efforts to alleviate these issues, often with significant risk to themselves.
