Inverclyde’s Response to the Ukraine Crisis
The motion
That the Parliament applauds Inverclyde’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with Inverclyde Council donating £20,000 to the Ukraine humanitarian appeal; understands that businesses, youth groups, third sector organisations and community groups have also played their part in the local response, with Wildfire Deli in Gourock, who initially organised a collection for items to be sent to Ukraine to help those fleeing the war, pledging to give all takings from 9 March 2022 to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine appeal, resulting in a donation of £4,020, thanks to customers' additional donations; further understands that local Scout and Boys Brigade groups have also collected donations, and that volunteers from across the area have come together to help organise, pack and distribute essential goods to Ukraine after the Singh family opened the doors of the Cathcart House building, owned by their business, Alliance Group Management, to give volunteers a central sorting hub; understands that the Singh family also donated £3,000 to the appeal; further understands that The Gin Hotel in Greenock has offered to house Ukrainian refugees; commends everyone who has donated their time, money or items to the humanitarian appeal, condemns the actions of Vladimir Putin and the Russian Government in Ukraine, and hopes that peace in the region will be restored and democracy upheld.
