Shetland Fiddler Margaret Robertson Awarded MBE for Services to Traditional Music

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Shetland fiddler, Margaret Robertson, on receiving an MBE for services to traditional music; understands that she was awarded the honour in 2020 and received it in a ceremony in Falkirk on 14 February 2022; commends Ms Robertson for her role in Hjaltibonhoga, a traditional fiddle collective that, it understands, raised the profile of Shetland fiddlers by bringing a group of nearly 100 fiddlers to perform in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo; recognises what it sees as the importance of such performance opportunities for amateur musicians in promoting and celebrating local music and culture; celebrates Ms Robertson’s contribution to Shetland’s traditional music scene through teaching and performing, and wishes her well in her future endeavours.
