Purple Day for International Epilepsy Day

Lodged by Jackie Dunbar (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 41 supporters

The motion

That Parliament notes that 26 March 2022 marks International Epilepsy Day, which is also known as purple day; understands that epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions in the world, with an estimated 55,000 individuals in Scotland living with epilepsy; further understands that, while children and older people are most at risk of developing the condition, anyone can develop epilepsy at any time in their life, irrespective of their age, gender or background; understands that epilepsy is different for everyone with the condition and affects everyone differently; further understands that Epilepsy Scotland takes the opportunity on purple day each year to get people talking about epilepsy and dispel the myths and stigma attached to the condition, and considers that more needs to be done not only to help raise awareness of epilepsy and how the condition affects individuals, but also to help bust the myths and stigmas which, it believes, surround the condition.
