The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates the Rotary Club of Dumfries as it celebrates its centenary year; notes that the occasion was marked by a special dinner at the Cairndale Hotel, where the 100-year charter was presented; recognises the enormous service that it has provided to the community of Dumfries over the years in both financial and practical terms and to many individuals, charities and local organisations, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Alzheimer’s Association, Compass, Riding for the Disabled, Chariots of Fire and many more; acknowledges that the club was formed in May 1921, before being chartered the following year, and commends the club as it continues its ongoing commitment to the End Polio Now campaign, for its support in purchasing and providing two field ambulances in the aftermath of the Balkans conflict, for working in collaboration with Troqueer Primary School and college to supply education resource materials for schools in Kenya and Sri Lanka, and for providing disaster boxes and water aid equipment to disaster areas in Yemen, Lebanon, Afghanistan and, more recently, Ukraine.
