The motion

That the Parliament notes that 9 to 15 May 2022 is Mental Health Awareness Week; welcomes this week of mental health awareness-raising, education and campaigning; recognises what it sees as the relevance of this year's theme, Loneliness and Mental Health, to Scotland; considers that, based on available data, loneliness is a key risk factor of poor mental health and that, by reducing loneliness, mental health problems can be prevented; notes reports that some people are at higher risk of loneliness than others and therefore require targeted interventions from the Scottish Government, such as creating safe and accessible spaces for social connectedness and reducing digital exclusion; believes that addressing loneliness is something that needs to be done as a society, within communities, and as individuals, and commends the work of the Mental Health Foundation and local volunteers who help to make Mental Health Awareness Week each year possible.
