The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the recent announcement that the first Wee Forest for Aberdeen, has been planted in the Aberdeen Donside Constituency; understands that the first Wee Forest has been planted in Aberdeen as a result of joint efforts between Aberdeen City Council’s Environment Services Team, NatureScot and the pupils and staff of Woodside Primary School; further understands that a Wee Forest is a tennis court-sized, densely planted and fast growing native woodland in urban Scotland, which combines both the specific tiny forest planting method with long-term citizen science; understands that the Woodside Wee Forest will join a group of 20 such forests across the country, which are being planted; further understands that the Wee Forest will complement a nearby outdoor classroom, which will present many opportunities for both Woodside Primary School and the local community; notes the benefits to young people, which it understands will enable them to learn how they can help to tackle the ecological and climate emergency by planting and looking after their own forest in their local community; understands that the Woodside Wee Forest will provide places to play in a natural setting and opportunities to enjoy nature with benefits for individuals mental and physical health, and commends the efforts of all involved in the project, which, it believes, will help future generations enjoy the benefits of the trees planted in the area.
