The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that the Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust (FRHT) plans to turn derelict office buildings near Duthie Park into a visitor centre celebrating the north east’s rail history; commends the hard work of FRHT volunteers who have raised over £500,000 for the charity; recognises what it sees as the vital role that such projects play in supporting north east tourism; welcomes the wider plans for the site, which will include a visitor centre showcasing railway items collected by volunteers, workshops, a reconstructed plant room and a large replica water tower to fuel visiting steam engines; notes the continued investment made by the FRHT, allowing for the successful completion of projects such as the restoration of the Ransomes and Rapier 1906 turntable, and the welcoming, in 2019, of the first locomotives to visit the site in decades; congratulates FRHT, established in 2007, on 15 years of success, and wishes the charity continued success in the future.
