The motion

That the Parliament pays tribute to the work of Aberdeen-based Zest Football Club, a non-profit club founded by Zander Thornton in the summer of 2021 to make football accessible to all; understands that Zander decided to establish Zest during a period in rehabilitation, and that he “vowed to come out the other side stronger” by helping and supporting others in the community; further understands that Zest hosted its first football camps in October 2021, where the club provided free food, transport and sport for 120 children, including free boots for those who needed them through its football boot bank; recognises Zest’s mission to provide football for all on a free or pay-what-you-can model so that no child or adult is denied the opportunity to socialise, exercise and learn new skills; notes that Zest will be running two football camps at Goals Aberdeen during the Easter holidays, and that, overall, it has eight weeks of camps planned for 750 children in 2022; further notes that Zest has introduced a midday football session for adults with additional support needs that takes place every Thursday at Goals; thanks the club’s sponsors and partners for their ongoing support, and commends team members Zander, Claire, Rhea, Barry, and Chief Mascot, Keebz the dog, for changing lives through football in the north east.
