Global Climate Strike, 25 March 2022
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the tens of thousands of young people who reportedly took to the streets on 25 March 2022 in more than 600 locations worldwide, including Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow, Dumfries, Inverness, Ullapool and Stirling, in the latest Global Climate Strike, organised by Fridays For Future under the slogan “People Not Profit”; understands that solidarity with the people of Ukraine was expressed at many of the protests; notes the view, reportedly highlighted by some of the climate strikers, that continued reliance on fossil fuels leaves some countries reliant on Russian gas, and that this provides Russia with money to buy arms being used to wage war on Ukraine, and offers full support and solidarity to all of the young people around the world who are taking action for climate justice where, it believes, governments are often failing to act.
