Haddington Rugby Club Wins Community Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Haddington RFC on receiving the award of Community Club of the Season in the East region by the Scottish Rugby Union; understands that Haddington RFC has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the sport and local community throughout 2021-22 including work from inclusive rugby opportunities to local gardening projects and fundraising; further understands that Haddington RFC has been especially focussed on supporting young people into rugby and now has over 150 players playing regularly in its minis section at the club and 100 participating in the School of Rugby partnership with Knox Academy, including a growing number of girls; understands that in November 2021 the Minis, aged five to 11 years old, got involved in the planting of over 8,500 bulbs around Neilson Park as part of the Blooming Haddington project and that the club has raised over £14,000 in 2021-22 through a number of challenges and virtual events for a range of charitable causes, including the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and the Wooden Spoon charity, and further understands that it is co-founder and leading donor for Bloody Rugby, which raises awareness of blood cancer in the rugby community.
