Pupils at Shawhead Primary School Win Seventh Eco-Schools Flag

That the Parliament congratulates the pupils and teachers at Shawhead Primary School in the county of Dumfries and Galloway after winning their seventh Eco-Schools Scottish Green Flag Award; understands that only 2% of Scottish schools have ever achieved this honour; believes that it represents more than 14 years of recognised environmental work that is now part of the school curriculum; acknowledges the encouraging comments made by the judges of the school programme run by Keep Scotland Beautiful, who it understands were greatly impressed with the school’s legacy in promoting the environment and protecting the planet despite challenging times during recent COVID-19 pandemic restrictions; praises the work carried out by the 22 pupils who have organised litter picks, and studied aspects of biodiversity, life below the water and climate change; notes what it sees as their strong commitment towards marine conservation, including writing to the UK Prime Minister urging him to act, and wishes the primary school every success in the coming months ahead as it plans its next eco-friendly initiative in the hope of gaining an eighth flag.
