The motion

That the Parliament commends Liam Anderson from Gourock for setting up Raise Funds for Nepal in aid of children abandoned after a massive earthquake in Nepal; understands that Liam was moved to act after the devastating quakes in the Himalayan region in 2015, which, it understands, claimed 9,000 lives as well as destroying cities, towns and villages; further understands that since then, Liam has raised over £20,000 to help to provide shelter, food, healthcare and an education for children left orphaned in the worst hit areas; notes that Liam first travelled to Nepal as a volunteer in 2002 and, days prior to the quakes in 2015, he taught in a school with the Nepal Info project; further notes that Liam travels to Nepal every year to help the orphanages and, in a bid to fundraise for the charity, has climbed no fewer than 14 Munros; considers that Liam’s efforts show that people can make a difference both at home and abroad, and wishes Raise Funds for Nepal all the best for the future as it continues to support children affected by natural disasters in the region.
