The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Rachel Challoner from Fair Isle, Shetland, on her Barbour jacket design being featured in British Vogue magazine; understands that the design was selected as one of five finalists out of 500 entries to Barbour and British Vogue’s, design your dream Barbour jacket competition; further understands that Rachel paid tribute to Fair Isle’s knitwear heritage in her design by using Fair Isle knitted accents on the storm cuffs and lining of the jacket, which was spun with traditional colours, and understands that the back was decorated with the coordinates of the island; recognises her commitment to the island’s kitting heritage and to local production through knitting from home on Fair Isle and using 100% Shetland wool from Jamieson’s of Shetland, which, it understands, is the last spinning mill in Shetland; understands that her jacket will be on display along with the other finalists in Selfridges from 15 April 2022 for one month and will then be sold, with proceeds going to The Prince’s Foundation, which, it understands, is a charity that supports traditional crafts and preserving the skills of craftspeople; considers that Rachel’s achievement in the competition shows a positive recognition of skilled craftspeople working with traditional crafts by the organisers, and wishes her well with her future creative endeavours.
