Lodged by Stephanie Callaghan Standard Motion 5 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes the announcement from South Lanarkshire Council that overdue library fees will no longer be applied in a bid to encourage more people to access library facilities; understands that the cancellation of fines extends across all libraries operated by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and includes any existing fines; considers that overdue library fees, although small, can be a barrier for people accessing library services, particularly in the country's most deprived communities; commends South Lanarkshire Council for removing library fees, particularly during the current cost of living crisis, and encourages people in South Lanarkshire and across the country to reconnect with their local library and make use of their extensive services that extend to computer learning centres, researching local history and heritage, as well as borrowing and reading books.
