Celebrating the Success of Scotland’s Climate Festival

That the Parliament celebrates the success of Scotland’s Climate Festival, which launched at COP26 in November 2021 and ranuntil the 31 March 2022, reaching nearly 30,000 people across the globe; understandsthat in the 130 days since COP26, 40 community festivals and free events, fromAnnan to Inverness to the Isle of Raasay, focussing on growing, active travel,upcycling, film screening and guided walks and talks, were funded; further understands that events were held online over the winter, kicking off with a paneldiscussion After COP26, What Next? Scotland’s Climate Future, and that thefirst in-person event was held on 14 March 2022 at Glasgow Science Centre; understandsthat the programme of national events covered topics such as COP26, women inagriculture, the wellbeing economy and the national Year of Stories, where over18,000 people attended 62 community festivals and events held across 17 localauthorities nationwide, and thousands more from around the world engagedonline; further understands that guest speakers came from a diverse range ofprofessional and personal backgrounds and countries, including Ministers, acomedian-academic, filmmakers and wellbeing economy experts, from Glasgow tothe USA, New Zealand and Zambia; applauds Scotland’s Climate Festival forbringing the issues discussed before, during and after COP26 right to the heartof our communities, providing what it sees as much needed energy andmobilisation to support local action following the global agreement, andunderstands that surveys found that 92% of people who came along to ClimateFestival events were inspired to take action or make changes in their life.
