Ending Conversion Therapy For All

Lodged by Ross Greer (Scottish Green Party) Standard Motion 17 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament deeply regrets the UK Government's reported decision to exclude trans people from its proposed ban on so-called conversion therapy; considers that trans people are one of the groups at the highest risk of conversion practices, with recent research from Galop showing that 11% of trans people have been subjected to conversion practices by their own families; further considers this to be the latest move in a deliberate and harmful attempt by some to separate and divide the LGBTQ+ community; commends the many charities and organisations who have reportedly withdrawn their support for the UK Government's Safe To Be Me, now-cancelled, conference, in protest of recent developments; welcomes what it sees as the cross-party statements of support for a comprehensive ban on conversion therapy, which were made in the Scottish Parliament on 15 March 2022; supports the work of the Scottish Government's Expert Advisory Group on ending conversion practices following its recent inaugural meeting, and reaffirms the commitment to ensuring that all LGBTQ+ people, including trans people, are protected from what it considers to be these abhorrent practices as soon as possible.
