Boost for Lanarkshire School Pupils as DMG Services Group LTD Bridge the Gap Between Employers and Young People Through DYW Partnership

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates the announcement from Bellshill-based roofing experts, DMG Services Group LTD (DMG), who, it understands have agreed a partnership with the Scottish Government and its Developing the Young Workforce (DYP) initiative, which will see the business give hundreds of local high school pupils the chance to learn a professional trade; understands that the DYW was established in 2014 and is Scotland’s Youth Employment Strategy, which is designed to bridge the gap between employers and young people in order to better prepare youngsters for the world of work; further understands that in signing the agreement with the councils in North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire, Darren McGhee, DMG Managing Director, will engage with around 60 high schools in the area to give senior pupils the opportunity to learn more about what it takes to become a skilled professional roofer; understands that the firm’s newly-opened training academy at Strathclyde Business Park will host work experience weeks for S4 pupils, with a foundation apprenticeship available for those in S5, where pupils will learn practical skills in a secure environment, with further opportunities to participate in instruction sessions covering topics such as health and safety, and welcomes the launch of the sessions, which it understands are expected to begin in the coming weeks, with pupils from Buchanan High School the first to be involved.
