Lanarkshire Organisations Team Up to Launch Programme Assisting New Scots into Green Careers

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the partnership between New College Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire Council, Routes to Work, Fresh Start North Lanarkshire and ACS Clothing, who, it understands have joined forces to use their existing skills and resources to help New Scots find work and support them into green careers; welcomes the launch of the New Scots Pilot on 18 April 2022 and notes that the pilot will run for six weeks; understands that six New Scots, originally from Afghanistan, will undertake the pilot, with the programme incorporating two days a week at New College Lanarkshire and three days a week work placement at ACS Clothing, which, it understands is a sustainable fashion service provider; further understands that this group of New Scots will become licensed first aiders, accredited white belts in lean six sigma and will undertake two SVQ level 5 modules and participate in a career development course; understands that the initiative will help participants build social networks in the local community; welcomes the skills and experiences of New Scots, recognising their economic and social contribution to Scottish society, and notes the development of plans for a one year refugee green employability programme for up to 30 New Scots from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine, which, it understands will build on the pilot, bringing in further collaborators such as Glasgow Caledonian University.
