Gaelic Culture in Greenock Celebrated in New Film

The motion

That the Parliament commends the efforts of Inverclyde Gaelic Learners group, who, it understands, have collaborated with children at Whinhill Primary and Access Technology Scotland, to produce a new film titled The Greenock Highlanders, which tells the story of the thousands of Highlanders, who arrived during the clearances, bringing their language and culture with them; understands that to mark the first ever national week of Gaelic culture and language, the contributors got together to launch the new online resource, as well as an exhibition, which, it understands is planned for the visitors’ centre at the new Greenock cruise terminal, which is being built on the waterfront; notes that the project has been three years in the making after it was interrupted by COVID-19; considers that there remains a strong link with Gaelic in Inverclyde through Whinhill Primary; understands that as well as performing at the launch, the school organised an outdoor ceilidh; hopes that people across the Greenock and Inverclyde constituency will engage with the project, and thanks the Inverclyde Gaelic Learners group for their commitment to keeping the Gaelic culture and language alive in their community.
