International Workers' Memorial Day 2022
The motion
That the Parliament recognises International Workers’ Memorial Day 2022, which is annually marked on 28 April to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives due to incidents at work or through work-related illness; notes with concern that Scottish Hazards has estimated that 10 people die every day in Scotland as a result of work-related incidents and illness; considers that the risks were increased for key workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, who continued working on the front lines of society and accepting the risk of infection of the virus; welcomes the many events taking place on 28 April to mark this day, and notes the commitment of the STUC to raising public awareness, and commends the work of organisations championing workers’ rights, and efforts in Scotland and internationally to strengthen health and safety practices to improve working conditions.
