World Fair Trade Day 2022
The motion
That the Parliament marks World Fair Trade Day 2022, which is taking place on 14 May 2022; understands that World Fair Trade Day is an annual initiative, which is coordinated by the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO); further understands that the 2022 celebration focuses on climate justice and the solutions presented by the fair trade, cooperative and organic movements; considers that climate change is happening now and is already affecting communities and livelihoods; believes that tackling the climate crisis is not just an ecological necessity, but also a social justice issue and a matter of survival for the worst affected, who are facing extreme weather conditions and perennial calamities; supports the fair trade campaigns for trade justice and climate justice to deliver what it sees as fair, inclusive and sustainable solutions, while addressing the root causes of climate change; notes what it sees as the contribution of fair trade supporters and enterprises in Scotland in promoting fair trade, including WFTO members, Just Trading Scotland, Fair Trade Scotland Ltd, the Scottish Fair Trade Forum, Scotland’s Fair Trade network, along with the other retailers and campaigners selling and promoting products with the WFTO Product Label; welcomes the World Fair Trade Day concert, which is being held at the Usher Hall on 14 May 2022 and organised by Hand Up Events, and sends a message of solidarity to the global fair trade movement as it continues its campaigns for trade and climate justice on this World Fair Trade Day and beyond.
