South Lanarkshire’s Holy Cross High School Harnessing the Power of Podcasts to Encourage Reading in Learners

The motion

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the innovative creation of podcasts by the S6 Reading Leaders at Holy Cross High School in Hamilton to encourage greater reading for pleasure; believes that the Reading Café project displays considerable curriculum inventiveness and ambition by harnessing the power of podcasts to foster a joy of reading, enhance reading culture across the school community and increase parental engagement; understands that the project involving senior pupils, teaching staff and the school librarian, started in support of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge and has been commended for its high level of creativity and challenge by a national reading charity and featured in a recent General Teaching Council of Scotland magazine article on the benefits of a pupil-led curriculum, and applauds the hard work of the S6 pupils and wider school team at Holy Cross High School in their ambition to promote the enjoyment that can be derived from reading and the love of a good story via pupil-led podcast conversations.
