Lodged by Clare Adamson (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 19 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Liam Scott Foundation on its fundraising efforts to highlight water safety as well as supporting underprivileged children across Scotland; understands that the foundation was set up in memory of Pauline and William Scott’s son, Liam, to raise vital funds to enable the purchase of better signage and life-saving equipment to be placed at danger spots across the country as well as supporting underprivileged children to enjoy hobbies or pastimes they may struggle to participate in; acknowledges what it sees as the importance of highlighting the dangers surrounding water and the need to reduce the amount of drowning and non-fatal drowning incidents that happen across the country every year, and equip people across Scotland with knowledge about water safety; understands that, in 2020, water-related fatality data show 39 accidental fatalities in Scotland; considers that there is a need for more Partnership Approach to Water Safety (PAWS) within communities to develop a water safety action plan, and applauds the Liam Scott Foundation, the local community groups, all organisations and individuals that form PAWS, for their commitment to ensure that people get out and enjoy the waterways safely.
