University of Glasgow Delivering on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates and commends the University of Glasgow on its ranking at 19 out of 1,046 international institutions in the world for its positive impact on society in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings; considers that this position in these rankings demonstrates the difference that the university is making in the world by working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); notes that the university earned second place in the same report for its achievements in the Sustainable Cities and Communities SDG; understands that, in 2014, the university was the first in the UK to declare that it would divest from fossil fuels within a decade, and, in 2017, was the first in Scotland to declare a climate emergency, and urges the university to forge ahead towards its commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
