World Fair Trade Day
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 14 May 2022 is World Fair Trade Day; understands that World Fair Trade Day was created by the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) in 2004; notes that World Fair Trade Day takes place on the second Saturday of May of each year; understands that it is an inclusive worldwide festival of events celebrating Fair Trade as a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty and exploitation, climate change and the economic crisis that has the greatest impact on the world’s most vulnerable populations; notes that WFTO believes that the global crisis confirms the need for a fair and sustainable economy locally and globally with trade benefitting the most vulnerable and delivering sustainable livelihoods by developing opportunities for small and disadvantaged producers; thanks the WFTO for its work in promoting this important day, and calls on citizens across the country to continue to buy and support Fairtrade products.
