125th Annual Scottish Trades Union Congress
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) 125th annual Congress, which was held in Aberdeen from 25 to 27 April 2022 and saw Scotland’s largest trade union movement brought together in person for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that delegates from over 50 affiliated unions and trades union councils, as well as the STUC equalities committees, met over three days to debate and agree on new policies; highlights contributions from the Aberdeen Trades Union Council (ATUC), which included a Women’s History Walk offering stories of Aberdeen women who were chartists, suffragettes, and trade union leaders; welcomes what it sees as the commitment given to Congress from the Scottish Government that more must be done on the cost of living crisis facing workers throughout the country; further welcomes the announcement of funding from the Scottish Government to the STUC, which, it understands, is to enhance the country's journey to net zero and to ensure a just transition that supports workers and communities throughout the country; congratulates all staff, delegates, and members of the STUC for what it sees as a resounding Conference, and looks forward to working closely with them in the future for the benefit, it believes, of Scotland’s workers.
