Call for Taiwan Observer Status at World Health Organization

That the Parliament recognises the reported continuing calls of the Cross Party Group on Taiwan for Taiwan to be granted World Health Organization (WHO) observer status in order to attend WHO technical meetings, mechanisms and activities, including 2022’s World Health Assembly (WHA) taking place from 22 to 28 May 2022; believes that the COVID-19 global pandemic illustrates the immeasurable importance of international cooperation, collaboration and co-dependency, in the face of a threat that knows no borders, for the better of all; echoes the reported widespread praise for what it considers Taiwan’s measured approach to tackling the virus, developed in part from lessons learned from previous outbreaks of the SARS virus, and what it sees as its willingness to share such expertise and practical assistance, such as the provision of 10 million masks to countries and communities most in need through its Taiwan Can Help campaign, and supports the granting of Taiwan's observer status at the upcoming WHA alongside regular participation in all WHO meetings, mechanisms and activities.
